Addis Ababa, February 13, 2024 (FBC) – This morning, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed conducted a site visit to the Shabelley Resort, in the Somali Region, the Office of the Prime Minister said.
The project is said to be a key site among the ‘DineForGenerations’ initiative. Situated 29 kilometers from Jigjiga City and sprawling across 385 hectares. It is also a critical component of the tourism pillar, aimed at transforming Jijiga City and its surrounding areas into a leading tourism destination.
According to the PM Office, the initiative highlights Ethiopia’s dedication to promoting sustainable tourism and economic development.

Addis Ababa, February 13, 2024 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD), together with First Lady Zinash Tayachew, celebrated the inauguration of the Jigjiga Flour and Bread Factory.
In his remarks on the inauguration of the factory, the Prime Minister said: “This remarkable project is one of the many pro-poor initiatives led by the Office of the First Lady and marks the eighth out of twelve factories being built across the country.”
“The inauguration of the factory is a step forward in our journey towards sustainable development and support for our communities,” the Prime Minister added.

Addis Ababa, February 12, 2024 (FBC) Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) today inaugurated the Ugaz Mirad Airport in Gode, Somali region, a significant project undertaken by Ethiopian Airlines, Office of the Prime Minister disclosed.
After inaugurating the airport, Prime Minister Abiy noted, “This new passenger terminal and airport aims to facilitate equitable development access and offer convenient services.”
This new airport, with a spacious passenger terminal, has the capacity to accommodate four Boeing 737 aircraft simultaneously, according to the Office of the Prime Minister.

Addis Ababa, February 12, 2024 (FBC) – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and First Lady Zinash Tayachew conducted an official visit to Jigjiga city, underscoring the government’s commitment to regional development and infrastructure enhancement, the Office of the Prime Minister stated.
Their tour included an inspection of the Jigjiga Sheik Hassen Yabare Referral Hospital, which has undergone significant renovations to better serve the community.
Additionally, they evaluated the completion of 16 kilometers of newly constructed asphalt roads, aimed at improving urban mobility and connectivity. The visit also encompassed the new regional parliament building, a symbol of the democratic and legislative strides being made in the region.

Addis Ababa, February 12, 2024 (FBC) – The new Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia Mr. Temesgen Truneh has arrived this morning in Bahr Dar, capital of Amhara regional state.
Upon arrival at the Bahir Dar Dejazmach Belay Zeleke Airport, Deputy PM Temesgen was greeted by the chief administrator of Amhara region, Mr. Arega Kebede, senior officials of the region, elders and religious leaders.
It is his first visit to Amhara region since his appointment as the Deputy Prime Minister last week. Note that Mr. Temesgen has led Amhara region as chief administrator from 22 July 2019 to 8 November 2020.

Addis Ababa, February 10, 2024 (FBC) – Public consultations are being convened in 20 cities and towns spanning across the entirety of the Oromia region, to delve into the current state of affairs in the regional state and in Ethiopia, at large.
These consultations, being conducted under the overarching theme of “United National Brotherhood and Sisterhood for Sustainable Peace and Comprehensive Prosperity,” served as platforms for dialogue and engagement on current national issues.
Throughout the array of public consultations conducted across the Oromia region, governmental representatives from both federal and regional levels engaged in discussions with community members, delving into a spectrum of national concerns and topics of importance.

Addis Ababa, January 30, 2024 (FBC) – The President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Sahle-Work Zewde, today visited the East Africa Pastoralist Expo which is being held from January 26 to February 1, 2024 at the Millennium Hall, Addis Ababa.
Note that the Expo was opened on January 26, 2024. The opening event was attended by, Speaker of the House of Peoples Representatives, Mr. Tagesse Chaffo, the Irrigation and Lowlands Minister, Aysha Mohammed and representatives of pastoralists in the East Africa region. Members of the diplomatic community in Addis Ababa, representatives of IGAD member countries and international organizations and partners were also in attendance of the event.

Addis Ababa, January 27, 2024 (FBC) – Policies need to embrace and support the cross border dynamics of pastoralism recognizing the potential in strengthening regional ties, Irrigation and Lowland Areas Development Minister Aisha Mohammad said.
The East Africa Pastoralists Expo that brought together more than 1,200 pastoralists kicked off at the Millennium Hall today.
The aim of the expo, which will run for the next five days, is to ensure shared and mutual development among countries in the region by mitigating the challenges of the pastoral communities.

Addis Ababa, January 17, 2024 (FBC) – The Netherlands Development Cooperation (SNV) is eager to continue supporting the expansion of biogas development programs in Ethiopia, SNV Biogas Dissemination Scale-Up Programme team leader Carlos Bueso told ENA.
The team leader noted that this technology is a priority for the Government of Ethiopia that has planned to install 160,000 biodigesters till 2030 with the view to providing clean energy for rural farmers.
The Netherlands Development Cooperation, which working in Ethiopia focusing on agri-food, energy, and water whilst scaling up biogas dissemination since 2017, is eager to support this ambitious plan as biogas technology has multi benefits for farmers at household level, Bueso said.

Addis Ababa, January 9, 2024 (FBC) – Clean cooking energy is less than 10 percent in Ethiopia and more than 90 percent of Ethiopians are still dependent for cooking on solid biomass that has adverse effects on the environment, Water and Energy State Minister Sultan Wali noted at the closing program of “Biogas Dissemination Scale up Programme” (NBPE+) held in Addis Ababa today.
The NBPE+ programme is a public private partnership commenced in 2017 at the federal, regional and district level funded by the European Union and the Government of Ethiopia.
The state minister said that access to clean cooking energy is very low across African countries.
Speaking of biomass fuels, he stated that using solid biomass fuels has adverse effect on the health of children and mothers as they are the ones who are directly involved in the cooking process.
